Jen is a pastor's wife. She and her husband have two sons, both with some social and learning challenges.

Jen is approaching 49, her boys are closing in on adulthood while still operating at a much younger level, and her husband works unpredictable hours as he cares for the people who make up his church body.

Jen and I sat down for a coaching session together.

Jen cherishes her time spent with her family, but sometimes it's difficult to find an activity they can all enjoy together without the day ending in chaos and frustration.

She wants to plan some time that is less frustrating and will be fun for everyone. She has made lists. They have tried new activities.

Nothing is working. She feels stuck.

I asked her some questions. We explored some other ways to move forward. She felt stuck and could not think of anything else to try.

I was observing her body language and making note of her word choices. She had no more. She was at the end of her creative options.

So I asked her, "What is the thought behind your feelings right now?"

Suddenly, her face lit up. She made a sound, like the air suddenly entered her lungs. I could almost see the light bulb that lit up above her head.

She said, "You're awesome." She grabbed her pen and began furiously writing.


I don't know exactly what happened for Jen in that moment, but I also didn't need to. God had given her the next thing she needed.

She transformed from stuck and frustrated to hopeful. And I got to have a front row seat.

This is the power of life coaching.

I love learning, and I love studying the brain. It's amazing how God made us!

I love seeing how neuroscience (brain science) is continually showing us the specifics of what God said in the Bible.

I know not everyone is a neuro-geek like me, and you don't have to be!

I love sharing the fascinating things that God is teaching me,

that I learn about the brain (but in plain, non-geek English),

how that all intersects with God's Word,

and how we can apply it in our daily lives.

THIS is the kind of teaching we will have in SYS.

The kind of getting unstuck we will do together.

We will find our passion and live our daily lives with purpose.

Together.
